Why teams pick a no-signup retro tool

The friction of creating accounts for every participant — especially contractors, cross-team guests, and one-off facilitators — kills momentum before the retro even starts. Retro Harbour was built so a facilitator can open a board mid-meeting and have everyone collaborating before the screen-share is set up.

Zero onboarding

No form, no email confirmation, no organisation setup. The page is the product.

Guest-friendly

External stakeholders join from a single link. No license seats, no admin invites.

Privacy by absence

We can't lose data we never collected. There are no user records to breach.

How "no signup" actually works

  1. Open retroharbour.com/app/ and pick a template from the retrospective template gallery (Start/Stop/Continue, Mad/Sad/Glad, 4Ls, Kanban Flow/Blockers/Improvements, and 6 more).
  2. A unique board URL is generated. The URL is the access token — no auth layer behind it.
  3. Paste the link in Slack / Teams / Discord / email. Everyone clicks and lands on the same live board.
  4. Run the retro: write privately, reveal, group, vote, capture actions, export Markdown.

No one is asked for their name, email, or company at any point. A display name is optional and kept locally — it never leaves the browser as account state.

Retro Harbour vs. signup-required tools

What you give up (and what you don't)

Honest version: an anonymous, no-signup tool can't recognise you across devices or auto-load your retro history. If you need a dashboard of every retro your team has ever run, you'll want a tool with accounts.

What you don't give up: real-time sync, all 10 templates, anonymous voting, the Actions phase, and Markdown export. The whole retro experience is identical — just without the login screen. When you're done, export the board to Markdown and store it in your team's wiki or repo for permanent record.

A lightweight optional account for long-term persistence is on the roadmap. It will stay opt-in; the anonymous flow isn't going anywhere.

FAQ

Do I really not need to sign up?

Correct. No signup, no login, no email. Open the page, click "Create a Board", share the URL.

Is the retro board really free?

Yes. No trial timer, no paywall, no "upgrade to unlock". All features are free.

What happens to my retro board data?

Boards live as long as the team needs them, then are eventually cleaned up. Nothing personal is stored. Export to Markdown to keep your own copy.

Are anonymous boards safe to share?

The board URL is the share secret — anyone with the link can join. Share it through your normal team channel and treat it like any other private resource.

What if I want retros persisted long-term?

Export each finished retro to Markdown for your wiki or repo. An opt-in free account for persistence is on the roadmap.
